As sad as it is for us to do, the time has come for the Lil’ Chub to find a new, loving home. As many of you know, this cooker has been a member of the Hot Grill on Grill Action family for nearly 8 years now. It has served us well, but with the toy hauler we use now to carry us around the country, we just don’t have the heart to let it sit without getting the use it deserves.
Sportsmanship Ramblings and a Year in Review by Hot Grill on Grill Action
Well another contest season has passed and though it was successful, it did not fall in line with what we had envisioned. In the world of competition BBQ being disappointed with a contest or an entire season is admirable; this is what drives a team or an individual to excellence.
Recently launced, in July, was a brand new monthly BBQ magazine named “StoryQue” by Lavern Gingerich, which is exclusively available from the iPad Newsstand. It is very well written and has TONS of valuable BBQ digs, for the backyarder and the competitor.

BBQ Revolution and Hot Grill on Grill Action are pleased to announce that we will be regular contributors to the content of the magazine, starting with this first issue! We couldn’t be happier to bring you yet another inlet to the BBQ Revolution!
We had the pleasure of attending the “Keepers of the Fire” contest in Mayetta, KS last weekend. It was their second annual event and let us tell you something………..it was AWESOME!

Well folks, I wanted to take a trip down memory lane and explain the beginnings of our lives in the competition BBQ world. If you’ve paid attention to some of the other posts there’s some history there related to how we started out and whom we owe credit to for us getting started, but no info on the actual event itself.
1st Annual Tri-Cities BBQ Contest – September 23, 2005
Here it is, the first BBQ contest. Who would have guessed it would be the start of Hot Grill on Grill Action. After digging up the pictures and looking at the date it’s hard to believe that what seemed like just yesterday was over 6 years ago.
The Jack Daniel’s World Championship in Lynchburg, TN – what an honor to be a part of it. I think our entire team understood the prestige behind this event as much as we could before heading out, but I’m not sure we had any idea just how big and awesome this event actually is. It was simply the coolest experience of our team’s history, hands down.

BREAKING NEWS; It’s official, Our BBQ Team Hot Grill on Grill Action was selected for Season 2 of TLC’s reality show “BBQ Pitmasters”. Ryan Amys, Matt Frampton, Logan Hendrickson, and Chris Yelick will be paired against the top BBQ chefs in the nation on the premier episode. I can promise you that the competition will be fierce and the show packed with not only the highest level BBQ, but also many twists, turns, suspense, and unforgettable moments.
. Make sure to tune into TLC on Thursday, August 12th at 10:00 (9:00 CST) and root us on!!!
Update 4/21/2010: We’re not getting our hopes up….but we have officially be picked as a finalist for the show! We have sent in the additional requested information….and are hoping for the best. This would be a trip!

First and foremost, this website is really a diary of recipes that my BBQ teammates and I have tried. All of us are authors here, so you’ll see all kinds of variety from our competition BBQ recipes to various dishes we make at home with our families.
The idea is to ensure we don’t lose or forget anything we try…..I think….and along the way – perhaps we’ll give someone an idea to try on their own or inspire someone to take what we have tried and share it here.
My quest for great BBQ all started back in 1999. My wife and I, newly married, moved from Omaha to KC. You would think that KC would be capable of providing the BBQ I was after with places like Little Jake’s, Winslow’s, Arthur Bryant’s and Hayward’s but as delicious as it all was (and is), the simple fact was, I missed my dads BBQ.
Last year, the team Louie Hewis and the “Q” (now called Hot Grill on Grill Action) got together to run all the Weber WSMs we had. It was a ton of fun and will need to post some pics of the food…it of course turned out great.
I do believe we had around well over 100lbs of meat on these 5 bullets, which is impressive.
Look closely….and you’ll see Logan’s dog Rocco in the background with what looks to be a butt bone.

So I was grill shopping last night, a journey we all face as we plunge into the endeavor of choosing our next few yeas of cooking enjoyment. After looking at an impressive selection, I was ready to buy a nice gas grill ($400ish). Then something caught my eye, and I had an epiphany. Tucked away in an inconspicuous place was something that I could only call more beautiful than a black pearl, something that reminded me of 2 eyepatches making love. The shiny black coat of paint could only be compared to the African Jaguar, a sleek yet powerful creature that has dominated it’s advisories for years. Yes, I was looking at the Weber Kettle Grill.
I was intrigued, and inspected the unit for flaws, none of which I could find. A passing sales associate noticed my examination of the aforementioned machine, and remarked that it was the best unit he ever had the pleasure of partnering with in his cooking endeavors.
