Top Father’s Day Gift Ideas 2018 Edition!

Hello everyone!

In honor of all the amazing Fathers this weekend, I wanted to give you some of my MUST HAVE barbecue and grilling related items out there in the hopes that it helps you get some more amazing backyard food cooked by your pops!  I hope you have a wonderful spring and summer season and let the fire and smoke role!  Everything thing you see below, where applicable, will last a lifetime.  It is one of my key decision points when deciding what to buy.  I want something that can handle travel and being beat up.  All of the below non-food items below are just that.

Without further ado, in no particular order:

  • A ThermaPen – without question, the best and most useful thermometer on the market.  There are several variations, but you cannot go wrong with any of them.  I have had a classic for years and still use it for everything.  If you cook a lot of meat, you must have one of these.  It’s also great for baking bread, taking temps if you brew beer and many other uses.
  • The KettlePizza – anyone who knows me, knows I LOVE to cook pizza with fire, in the backyard.  It is my single most favorite thing to do and I owe it all to the KettlePizza, which is my favorite backyard oven.  The KettlePizza is a Weber Kettle 22.5″ accessory and it’s simply amazing.  There is also a gas version.
  • Green Mountain Grills – I have a Jim Bowie and cook just about everything on it, including pizza from time to time.  It is also our cooker of choice for all our competition chicken and has been for years.  Our chicken has won awards and money at the American Royal, the worlds largest barbecue contest, multiple times.  There are several versions, including a reasonably priced tailgating model called the Davy Crockett.
  • Grill Grates – It took me a couple of years to jump on the bandwagon and try these out and I’m telling you straight up, I cannot imagine cooking without them now.  I have them on my Weber Genesis, on my PK360, my Weber 22 and my GMG Jim Bowie.  They are invaluable and completely eliminate flare ups (think greasy burgers that start infernos – GONE), they add an appearance that is to die for and simply cook the food better and more evenly.
  • Rufus Teague Apple Mash – If you haven’t tried this bbq sauce, do yourself a favor.  It’s incredible.  It’s good by itself, it’s good mixed with another sauce, it’s good on everything.  The flavor is like no other sauce on the market.  I love it and it would make a wonderful addition to any Father’s Day basket.  There are also some other wonderful sauces and rubs.  The new Chicken Rub is being used on all our competition chicken right now, FYI….
  • Memphis Black Jack Gloves – Look in Amazon for MCR Safety 6944 Black Jack gloves like these (there are several brands like them, but these are the BEST) are great to have.  They don’t stain, can be washed and are incredibly heat resistant.  They are also waterproof, so you can just rinse under the sink like you are rinsing your hands.  Love mine.
  • Grill Daddy Brush – this brush is very cool.  It holds water and essentially steam cleans your grates.  Grill Daddy also makes tongs and a spatula that protect your hand from being burned.  I love mine, I also gave my Dad a set years ago and he uses them all the time.
  • Fireboard – an awesome and very powerful temperature monitoring system.  It connects to WiFi and stores data in the cloud.  For any Father who loves to track cooks and have precision monitoring of ambient and meat temperatures, this is the one.   You can access the temp readings from your phone, no matter where you are located as long as the base unit is on WiFi.  Run an errand, go to church, hit up a graduation party – and have the peace of mind that the cooker and food is running as it should. Something else cool…..I brew my own beer and I monitor my mash tun and brew kettle with this!! The ambient probes screw right into the pots.

Hope this list helps!  Please hit me up on Twitter with any questions.
